As the batter begins the swing, the hips come into play for the first time. The lower body, especially the hips, is extremely important in hitting. Though they may not seem connected, the hips play a major role in the power and distance of a hit, because they create the necessary torque to drive the ball. Our hitting program recognizes the fundamental role of the lower body and we make it a focus in our training.
Anyone can throw a ball “over-hand,” but not everyone can do it well. While throwing a ball appears simple, it is actually a complex set of movements. Accurate pitching with force or speed requires the entire body and not just the shoulder and arm. Every part of the musculoskeletal system is literally involved. If any of these movements “break down,” they can make the ball go somewhere that it is not intended to go. Our program takes full-body biomechanics into account, leading to greater accuracy and velocity for our pitchers.
Before a ball is pitched, all fielders except the catcher and the pitcher should assume the ready position. In this stance, the player’s feet should be slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, with the knees bent and the weight over the balls of the feet. The player’s head should face the area near home plate. The hands should hang low between the legs, with the glove open wide. From this ready position, the player can get a good jump on the ball and move quickly in the direction it is hit. Perfecting the ready position is where we begin our Infield-Outfield program. Strength training is an important part of an overall fitness program. Strength training may also help you: MiLB Players – College Players – High school players who aspire to play college baseball.
